Did you know that 54% of those incarcerated in the Buncombe County Detention Center, when surveyed, said that they were either unhoused either prior to arrest or anticipated being so after they were released? Understanding how housing instability and incarceration are linked is critical to addressing both of these complex community issues.
Buncombe County is participating in the Just Home Project, a national program led by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation designed to advance community-driven efforts to break the link between housing instability and jail incarceration. Thrive Asheville is engaging at least 400 community members in an effort to understand the problem, and identify solutions.
Join us for an interactive presentation of data on housing instability and incarceration, and a discussion of potential solutions. Your ideas can be part of shaping the Housing Investment Action Plan to increase access to housing for formerly incarcerated individuals, potentially unlocking $5M in funding for new housing opportunities.
Lunch is free, and your participation is appreciated.
If having lunch, please arrive a few minutes early.
